Soothing days in the mountains – an inspiring vegan getaway

During the last days of our trip, a very special accommodation was waiting for us: we decided to spent three nights at Abriecosy, a 100% vegan and organic Bed&Breakfast.

Location

Abriecosy is a little paradise, tucked away in the woods and mountains. It is located 3km away from Bargemon, a small village in the Val department. Bargemon has a population of 1500 people and is well situated to explore the Gorges du Verdon, the biggest canyon in Europe. To reach Abriecosy, a car is recommended, but you can always contact the owners to see if a pick up can be arranged.
The property is totally immersed in nature, with a stunning view over the valley. If you look for peace and quiet, this is the place for you! The only sound you will hear are the birds singing, particularly a little cuckoo that was tirelessly communicating with us from morning til evening during our stay 🙂

Rooms

There are 5 rooms available at Abriecosy, ranging between 100 – 120€/night. All rooms come with a double bed, a private bathroom and a vegan breakfast in the morning. We were lucky to get an upgrade to their biggest room, “Fleur de vie”, which had a cosy-romantic vibe. We were fascinated by the love for detail that was put in the room, from the tree (put there by Geert), to the cosy lights and the self-made (from potatoes!), warm orange colour of the walls. And as soon as you step out of the room, you are greeted with a stunning view over the valley.

Food

Now the truly important part of the stay 🙂

Breakfast is included in the room price and consisted generally of a mix of bread, different homemade spreads, cereals, pancakes, fruits and plant-based milk.

For an additional 30€/person, you can also book dinner, including a starter, main and dessert. The dinner was always freshly prepared with the momentary inspiration of the chef. And boy, it was always delicious! We were blown away by Geert’s and Vanessa’s culinary skills and creativity. If you stay there, we highly recommend to have dinner with them at least once.

Activities

If you like the outdoors, you will find lots of things to see and do on and around the property. First, Abriecosy is the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature and the silence around. The forest and mountains around also offer many beautiful hiking paths.

The idyllic small village of Bargemon is definitely worth a visit. If you have a car, it is also a convenient starter point to explore Gorge du Verdon, go to a wine tasting in the region or even visit the Mediterranean coast. Click here to read more about how we spent our time in the area.

Geert and Vanessa from Abriecosy also organise different activities, such as intuitive cooking classes, hiking retreats, detox retreats, yoga classes and much more. If you are interested in volunteering, this is also an option.

Our experience

We stayed at Abriecosy for 3 nights and absolutely loved our stay! The location is stunning, peaceful and offered us an invaluable opportunity to slow down and relax. The food was amazing and prepared with lots of skills, creativity and love. The stay made us more aware of the benefits of organic food, something that we try to incorporate much more into our daily life now.

But the memory that will stay the most with us is that of the precious conversations we had with Vanessa and Geert, mostly over dinner every night. The two are extraordinary people that had the courage to turn their life around and follow their dreams. From deeps talks about life, society, health and following your intuition and path in life, it was an absolute pleasure to talk to them about all those various topics and learning about their story and experiences.

During the few days we spent there, it felt like living in a sort of happy bubble: staying with like-minded people, where a vegan lifestyle is seen as a moral evidence that emerges from a deep respect for all life around you. These values are embodied in everyday life at Abriecosy and transmitted effortlessly through everything: from the food and the materials used in the rooms to the inspiring activities, talks and retreats that are offered. We definitely left with a new-found energy and inspiration, feeling more and more encouraged to follow our own path and ideas in life. A huge thanks to Vanessa and Geert for their hospitality and kindness and reminding us that encounters like these are what traveling is all about.
